A Breckenridge attorney accused of stealing more than $500,000 from his clients before disappearing more than four years ago was arrested in California on Wednesday.
Royal "Scoop" Daniel III was booked into the San Diego Central Jail on Wednesday afternoon and is being held on a $175,000 bond.
He was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents as he was entering the United States from Mexico, according to a news release from the Breckenridge Police Department.
An extradition hearing is expected to take place today; an investigator was flown from Breckenridge to San Diego to follow up on the case.
Details about Daniel's whereabouts over the last four years have not been released.
An arrest warrant for Daniel, who was 61 when he vanished, was issued shortly after his disappearance. He faces felony theft charges.
On April 27, 2007, Summit County dispatchers received a hang-up 911 call from Daniel's cell phone. Co-workers reported him missing later that day. Prior to Wednesday's arrest there had been no confirmed sightings of Daniel since his disappearance.
