Denver Broncos cheerleader Toni Damico has been picked as the 2012 face of Angela King Designs'AKD and Go Wild! Wear. Nearly 200 college and pro-sports dancers and cheerleaders from across the United States and Canada had applied.
Facebook voters - 11,000 in less than five days - winnowed the field to 62 semifinalists; a panel of celebrity judges further narrowed the field to 32. The 32 then submitted videos to illustrate why they should be the next face of the AKD brand.
After viewing the videos, the judges presented their top 10 to company officials and from that group, Toni Damico was named the winner. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Damico came to Denver in 2011 and just completed her rookie year as a Broncos cheerleader.
"It was a tough decision, and it came right down to the wire," notes Angela King-Twitero, president of Angela King Designs and Go Wild! Wear. "The judges, (who were) entertainment industry pros, reviewed applications, photos and videos VERY closely to arrive at their selection."
In her video, Damico noted that she would be honored to represent the brand as "It is so important to feel confident in your uniform, and in my rookie year as a Denver Broncos cheerleader, I appreciated the quality, fit and shape the AKD uniforms gave to our entire team."
Damico will be flown to San Antonio in June to participate in the Go Wild! Wear collection photo shoot. In addition, she will receive $500 in merchandise and the Denver Broncos cheerleaders will receive Go Wild! Wear practice attire.
"The contest for the new face of AKD was both fun to be a part of and impressive to observe," says judge Fred Gaudelli, producer of NBC Sports' Sunday Night Football. "The quantity and quality of the women who entered was in direct correlation to the excellence of the AKD brand."
