Cold temperatures are expected to linger in Denver this weekend as heavy snowfall is expected in the mountains.
Skies will be mostly cloudy in Denver on Saturday, with a high temperature around 38 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. There is a 50 percent chance for precipitation in the metro area Saturday afternoon.
Snow is expected to start falling in Denver on Saturday night, with a possible 1 inch to 2 inches of snow by Sunday morning.
Sunny skies will return to Denver on Sunday, but temperatures are expected to remain below 40 degrees.
Several winter weather alerts have been issued for areas of the high country. A winter weather advisory has been issued for the central mountains, where some areas could have heavy snowfall throughout the day Saturday.
A winter weather advisory will remain in place for areas near Aspen and Vail until 6 p.m. on Sunday. Whiteout conditions are possible in those areas, which could see 7 inches to 14 inches of snow.
In western Grand and Jackson counties, a winter weather advisory will remain in place until 5 a.m. Sunday morning. Up to 8 inches of snow could fall in those areas before the advisory is lifted.
A hazardous weather outlook also has been issued for northern and central Colorado. One inch to 4 inches of snow could fall along or east of Interstate 25 before Sunday evening.

Tonight: Snow likely, mainly before 11pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 21. Northeast wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Veterans Day Mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Light north wind becoming northwest 6 to 11 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph.
