Thornton police arrested a man Sunday suspected of firing shots into a barroom and seriously injuring another man early in the morning.

An altercation inside Chamucos Bar and Grill at 8651 Washington St. may have led to the shooting at about 1:30 a.m., said Thornton police Sgt. Matt Kandt.

As a group of three men and two women were being escorted from the bar, one of them pulled a gun and fired into the building, Kandt said.

The group fled the scene.

Officers who responded to the call found a 40-year-old man who was wounded by gunfire.

The man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, Kandt said.

"Further investigation into the incident provided leads to identify the person involved in the shooting," Kandt said.

Investigators tracked the man they believe fired the shots to a home in the 9100 block of Gale Boulevard.

Police surrounded the home while investigators obtained a search warrant, and he was later arrested.

"It was not so much a standoff, but until they got a search warrant they couldn't go in," Kandt said.

Kandt said he didn't know whether further arrests might be coming. "But this is the person of interest in the shooting," he said.
