GREELEY — Those who gathered at Our Savior's Lutheran Church laughed with heavy hearts on Sunday as they recounted stories of the late Mark Hummels, a man whose peers growing up in Greeley said was unrivaled in both wit and spirit.
Hummels, 43, died Jan. 31 after a gunman stormed his law office in Phoenix, Ariz., killing him and one other man a day earlier. Hummels, whose parents still live in Greeley, was remembered by childhood friends, former teachers and family at a memorial on Sunday as a man full of love for his wife Dana, his 9-year-old daughter Ella and his 7-year-old son Henry.
In Phoenix, he worked for the law firm Osborn Maledon, practicing business disputes, real estate litigation and legal malpractice defense. He represented a business on the receiving end of a lawsuit filed by Arthur Douglas Harmon, 70, who opened fire on Hummels at the end of a mediation session.
