COMMERCE CITY — The Colorado Rapids opened a new era Saturday with a 2-0 victory over the Columbus Crew in the debut of head coach Oscar Pareja.
Defender Drew Moor scored on a header in the 44th minute off a perfect cross by right back Kosuke Kimura, and Quincy Amarikwa added an insurance goal in the 88th minute with a rocket from outside the penalty area.
Pareja promised a more creative attacking style and the Rapids delivered, putting heavy pressure on the Crew most of the game. The Rapids often had eight men in the attacking end, including Kimura and left back Luis Zapata.
Newcomer Jaime Castrillon stood out as an attacking midfielder and worked well with forward Omar Cummings.
