GREELEY TRIBUNE — Christopher Cox is behind bars for the next 42 years for his part in Weld County's first successful gang-related organized crime prosecution.
Cox was an 18th Street gang member. So when Greeley-Evans School District 6 says students can not wear sports jerseys or any attire with the number 18 on it, it's no offense to Peyton Manning. The district just wants to keep its students safe, officials say.
"We take a very hard stance against gang attire," said Roger Fiedler, the district's director of communications. "We want to keep it off our school grounds."
The dress code has been in effect for several years now, but when a third-grader from Monfort Elementary was recently sent home to change out of his Denver Bronco Manning jersey, it was thrown back into the spotlight.
