A Denver police cruiser collided with a vehicle near South Colorado Boulevard and Cherry Creek Drive South about 3 p.m. Friday. The vehicle was occupied by a woman and child who escaped serious injury, police spokesman Sonny Jackson confirmed.
Police said the officer was attempting to execute a "pit manuever" to stop the fleeing suspect when his cruiser hit the other vehicle.
Crews from the Denver Fire Department used the "jaws of life"to remove the top half of the victim's car to get the two out. The occupents and the officer were taken to a hospital as a precaution.
A suspect ditched his car and fled and, for awhile, motorists were warned to avoid the area during the manhunt.
Jackson said the suspect, wanted on an Arapahoe County warrant, was caught later near Sixth Avenue and Broadway. Police later identified the suspect on Twitter as Craig Dixon.
